Sylvester H. "Wimp" Zahringer, age 88, of Stockbridge, died on Thursday, January 03, 2013, at his home in the Town of Stockbridge. He was born February 7, 1924 in the Town of Stockbridge, son of the late William & Clara (Daniels) Zahringer. Sylvester honorably served his country at the end of WWII in the United States Army. Following his discharge, he returned to the Stockbridge area where he married the love of his life, Doris Hemauer, on June 12, 1952. Until his retirement in the late 1990's, he farmed in the Stockbridge area and worked a time for J&E Construction. Wimp was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Stockbridge, the Stockbridge American Legion, and was a longtime member of the Brickyard Fishing Club. He enjoyed hunting & fishing, and looked forward to a good game of Poker or Sheepshead when he and Doris held card club. Sylvester also treasured the trips he was able to take to the Grandview 'Hilton', his cabin located up north with all of the amenities he could ask for. Wimp was the king of one-liners and often had something comical to say while visiting with friend or stranger; chances are if you had ever had a conversation with him, you left with a new nickname. Survivors include his wife: Doris; his children: Jane (Charlie) Propson, Laura (Bill) Baldock, Barb (David) Woelfel, Bill (Donna) Zahringer, Gary (Debbie) Zahringer, Tom (Amy) Zahringer, Julie (Dean) Schroeder; 21 grandchildren: Dan, Tina (Ken), Nathan (Shantel), Tara (Nick), Becka, Spring, Nick (Anna), Shane (Shari) Eric (Amanda), Wes, Melissa, Zachary, Andy (Jennie), Tracy (Bryan), Brad, Jeff, Angela, Kati, Kristi (Matt), Jill (Mike), Mitchell; 21 great grandchildren; sisters-in-law: Dorothy Zahringer, Rosemary (Robert) Parsons, Betty Hemauer, Dorothy Hemauer; and a brother-in-law: John (Jean) Hemauer. Wimp is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and 3 brothers and 2 sisters: Matt Zahringer, Hugo Zahringer, Martha Schoen, Emma Zahringer, and Art Zahringer. He was further preceded in death by numerous in-laws. Funeral service will be at 11:00 am on Monday, January 7, 2013 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Stockbridge with the Rev. Michael Betley officiating. Burial will follow in the Parish Cemetery. Friends may call at the Wieting Family Funeral Home (411 W. Main St.) in Chilton from 12:00 Noon until 4:00 pm on Sunday, January 6, 2013 and on Monday at the church from 9:00 am until 10:30 am. A Parish Vigil Service will be held Sunday afternoon at the Wieting Family Funeral Home beginning at 4:00 pm.

Traci and I would like to express our deepest sympathy for your loss.
Wimpy will truely be missed and will always be remembered in our hearts. Hopefully our memories and our faith will help bring comfort through this time of grieving.
I consider myself to be a very fortunate person to have spent some fun times with Sylvester working with him at J&E Construction, where he called me his " Little Buddy". Whether we were telling stories, jokes or enjoying a cool beverage, he always had a way of making you feel good. He genuinely cared for his family and friends and wasn't afraid to show it. He gave us all an example of how important life is with our families and friends and that we should live our lives to its' fullest, regardless of our challenges or misfortunes. It truley is a privilage and an honor to know such a wonderful loving and caring person. His great sense of humor and his love for life has obviously been passed on through his family and shows that Wimpy will live on even after his passing. I will remember him always.

Whimp, You will be truly missed! I have known you for as long as I can remember and you always had a sweet word for me. I don't know how I ever got the name, Stoney, but you always made it sound so cool. You rest in piece and try to keep all the friends under control up there. Rest in peace.

I'll never forget when Wimp used to babysit me and we would eat cold "wieners" (hot dogs) together. He was always very warm and welcoming to me. My thoughts go out to the whole family and community. You were all blessed with a great man in your life.

Dear Zahringer Family -
We are so sorry to hear about your loss. Wimp - what a great man and neighbor. Never Forgotten.
I, personally, remember as a little girl - all the great times Julie and I had playing, the chickens, picking stones and sitting on the front porch talking with Doris and Wimp.
Warmly - Bernice, Pat, Jim, Tim and Lisa Grogan
