Denis D. Hostettler, age 64, of Hilbert, died on Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at the Chilton Care Center in Chilton. He was born July 12, 1948 in Green Bay, son of Lois Hostettler. He had graduated from Stockbridge High School and UW Oshkosh with a Biology Degree. Denis married Theresa Mueller on July 14, 1973 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Chilton. He had worked for Fromageries Bel and Chilton Products and served as a firefighter with the Hilbert Fire Department. Denis had been a former member of the Hilbert Kiwanis and Lions Clubs and volunteered his time as a leader with the local Cub Scouts when his son was younger. He had long been a Packer, Brewer and Badger fan who also appreciated the skill and patience of Chess or a round of Sheepshead. Denis enjoyed bowling, hunting, fishing and was a voracious reader; he was the endless font of trivial knowledge that came in handy playing Trivial Pursuit or Who Wants to be a Millionaire? Denis's favorite place to be, however, was the great outdoors. He could sit outside for hours listening to the birds, or gazing at the stars above. He also enjoyed camping, but never thought 'towing a house' behind a vehicle constituted camping. Denis was always looking for ways to make 'roughing it' a little more rough. He certainly would have been able to survive outdoors with nothing more than the clothes on his back. Above all else, Denis loved to visit and joke with family and friends. For him, it was always the perfect time to share a funny story, a new joke, or pull a prank on those closest to him. He will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife: Theresa; his mother: Lois; his children: Denis "DJ" Hostettler, Jr. and special friend Dixie Jacobs of Milwaukee, Tracy (Pete) Fahrenkrug of Neenah, Kelly Hostettler and special friends Ben & Cassandra Kenneally of Minneapolis, MN, Kristian Hostettler and fiancée Sonja Emerick of Madison; 3 grandchildren: Aquinnah & Alex Fahrenkrug, Eleighanara Kenneally; and his mother-in-law: Rita Mueller. He is further survived by many in-laws, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Denis was preceded in death by his grandparents: Norman & Clara Hostettler and his father-in-law: Raymond Mueller. Funeral services will be at 6:00 pm on Sunday, January 27, 2013 at the Wieting Family Funeral Home (411 W. Main St.) in Chilton. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2:00 pm until 5:30 pm on Sunday, January 27, 2013. The family of Denis Hostettler would like to thank Affinity Home Hospice, Dr. Goggins and his staff, and the staff of the Chilton Care Center for all their care and comfort during this difficult time.
