Richard M. "Dick" Giere, age 66, of Hilbert, died on Tuesday, September 18, 2012 at his home in Hilbert. He was born April 15, 1946 in Germantown, son of the late Vernon & Lorraine (Hendricks) Giere. Dick married Marilyn (Head) Bauer on November 7, 1981. He drove truck for numerous companies in the area and worked as a car salesman. Dick had been a member of AA since 1981, enjoyed watching NASCAR, the Wisconsin Badgers, and the Green Bay Packers. He was an avid outdoorsman who belonged to the North American Hunting Club and enjoyed hunting by Uncle Ray as well as fishing whenever possible. Dick meticulously cared for his lawn and cherished his property where deer and turkey would graze. He devoted a lot of his time trying to teach his children and grandchildren the skills and life lessons he had picked up throughout his life. Although he took life very seriously, he never passed up an opportunity to share a joke or play a prank. Dick was never afraid to speak what was on his mind, and those that knew him, knew exactly how he felt. Those that loved him knew that he cared deeply for his family, and appreciated every opportunity that was given to him to spend time with his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife: Marilyn; children: Martin (Robbi) Brethouwer of Winneconne, Wayne (Kim) Bauer, Jr. of Waupun, Shawn (Pam) Giere of Fond du Lac, Wanda (Jose) Bauer of Chilton, Tim (Tracy) Giere of Fond du Lac, Paula (Greg) Schultz of Pewaukee; 13 grandchildren; his father-in-law: Kenneth Head of Hilbert; 2 sisters: Donna (Jim) Allan of Greenleaf, Muriel (Jeff) Wiechman of Winneconne; a brother-in-law: Tom (Alyce) Head of Hilbert; a sister-in-law: Joanne (Harold) Pickart of St. Cloud; and a good friend: Jerry Wolfe. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his mother-in-law: Esther Head; a niece, aunts and uncles. Funeral service will be at 4:00 PM on Thursday, September 20, 2012 at the Wieting Family Funeral Home (411 W. Main St.) in Chilton. Friends may call at the funeral home from 1:00 PM until 4:00 PM on Thursday, September 20, 2012.
