Robert L. Reif, age 81, of Chilton, died on Wednesday, June 6, 2012 at the Chilton Care Center in Chilton. He was born May 9, 1931, son of the late John & Anna (Schroven) Reif. He married Dorothy Jaeckels on May 11, 1955 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Chilton. Robert had faithfully served his country in the United States Air Force for 11 ½ years, and was discharged as a Staff Sergeant. He worked throughout the area during his life, including the Chilton Metal Products, Lewis Container in Adams Friendship, and Wyerhauser Paper in Manitowoc. He and his wife then owned and operated The Establishment in Hilbert for 15 years until retirement. Following his retirement, Robert continued to work odds and ends jobs to occupy his time. He was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church, was a former member of the church choir, the Knights of Columbus, and the Hilbert Lions. He also belonged to the Tavern League and served as president for a time. Whenever possible, Robert took time to go golfing, or solve a crossword puzzle. He was a voracious reader, having read nearly 600 books and looked forward to taking trips. Above all else, Robert loved and appreciated his family and especially enjoyed visits from his great granddaughter. Survivors include his wife: Dorothy; a daughter: JoAnn (Steve) Eldred of Sharon, WI; 2 grandchildren: Cory Eldred of New Holstein, Amanda (Kevin) Wall of Kimberly; and a great grandchild: Ariana. He was preceded in death by his parents; his step-father: Harold Bowe; his father-in-law and mother-in-law: Joe & Romilda Jaeckels; a brother: Bill (Mabel) Reif; a sister: Dorothy (Roland) Boll; and a brother-in-law: Tom Jaeckels. Funeral service will be at 11:00 AM on Monday, June 11, 2012 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church (54 E. Main St.) in Chilton with the Rev. Bob Kollath officiating.
