Ruth Mildred Broeckel, age 74, of Sheboygan, died unexpectedly on Thursday, May 17, 2012 at her home in Sheboygan. She was born June 13, 1937 in Brothertown, daughter of the late John & Mildred (Bloedow) Goos. She married the love of her life, Elmer E. Broeckel, on June 6, 1956 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Jericho. The couple farmed together in the Brothertown area and Ruth worked at Aluminum Specialty in Chilton until they moved to Sheboygan in 1963. Following their move, Ruth was employed by Spiller Springs, and Wigwam Mills in Sheboygan, and later in life worked for Johnsonville Sausage. Ruth had lovingly devoted a majority of her life to the upbringing and care of her family. She had been a member of Holy Name Catholic Church in Sheboygan. Ruth enjoyed the simple joys and relaxation of watching birds, planting flowers and gardens, and tending to her fish. She was an extraordinary baker and perfected the art of canning each year's garden harvest. Ruth will be remembered as a good and dependable friend who enjoyed joking around; above all else, however, she delighted in the warmth and love of her children and grandchildren whom she adored. Survivors include her children: Victoria Schloss of Monona, WI, Jim (Joanne) Broeckel of Plymouth, Tom Broeckel of Sheboygan, Lori (Frank) Anderson of New Holstein; 5 grandchildren: Tarl & Talina Schloss, Ashton & Paige Broeckel, Ariana Anderson; a sister: Jane Zahn of Chilton; a brother: John Goos of Oostburg; a brother-in-law: Claude Knaus of Chilton; a sister-in-law: Shirley (Lester) Freund of Chilton; and her beloved cat: 'Muffy'. She is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband: Elmer; her parents: John & Mildred Goos; her father-in-law & mother-in-law: Henry & Viola Broeckel; brothers-in-law: Willard Zahn, LeRoy (Dorothy) Broeckel; and a sister-in-law: Doris Knaus. Funeral service will be at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 23, 2012, at the Wieting Family Funeral Home (1212 Teckla Pl) in Kiel. Burial will take place in the Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery in Jericho. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4:00 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 23, 2012. Memorials are appreciated in the name of Ruth M. Broeckel.
